Peter W. Kakavas, M.D.

There has been a rapid growth in cardiac imaging technologies in the past decade.  I am proud to have brought together a team of specialists to provide our patients with the "cutting edge" of these new modalities.
Dr. Peter Kakavas earned his undergraduate degree at Benedictine University, where he was selected for membership in the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society.  At Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, he received his M.D. degree in 1989.  Following residency training at Northwestern University, Dr. Kakavas completed his cardiology fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, where he completed an additional year of specialty training in echocardiography.
Dr. Kakavas was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center.  He serves as Director of the Echocardiographic and Vascular Laboratories of Heart Care Centers of Illinois and MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island.  He is also director of the Cholesterol Modification Program at HCCI.
Dr. Kakavas specializes in Echocardiography and has a particular interest in the diagnosis and management of patients with lipid disorders.  He has published articles on topics relating to echocardiography, cardiomyopathy, and Trans-Myocardial Laser Revascularization.  He participates in Multicenter clinical trials of new therapies, and is the Director of Clinical Research at HCCI.
Dr. Kakavas is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease with additional certification in Echocardiography.  He joined Heart Care Centers of Illinois in 1995.
