SYMPOSIUM OVERVIEW:
The State of the Heart 2007 symposium is designed to provide a forum to discuss and review the most recent advances in interventional, pharmacologic, and clinical management of patients with cardiovascular disease.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
After participating in this program, physicians should be able to: |
"Smoking Cessation... New Strategies for Success"
- Increase opportunities to provide smoking
cessation guidance and treatment.
- Improve understanding of the chronic condition
of nicotine addiction.
- Examine therapeutic strategies to aid patients
with quitting.

"Plavix Use & Drug Eluting Stents: Prevention of Late Stent Thrombosis"
- Explain the difference between bare metal and drug eluting stents, including which situations are optimal for drug eluting stents.
- List the predictors of In-stent restenosis, as well as understand the clinical challenge in treating In-stent restenosis.
- Describe the impact of recent clinical trials on the use of percutaneous coronary intervention and specifically on the use of drug eluting stents.
- Compare the health care costs of drug eluting stents versus bare metal stents, including post procedure antiplatelet therapy and reintervention costs.
"Syncope... New Guidelines for Evaluation &
Therapy"
- Identify the implications of the newly revised syncope guidelines.
- Distinguish when to refer the syncope patient to a heart rhythm expert.
- List the newly revised sudden death syndromes.
"Cardiac MRI- Next generation imaging. How to use it today"
- Describe the role of cardiac MRI in assessing cardiac structure and function.
- Compare the patterns of gadolinium enhancement in ischemic and nonischemic cardiomyopathy.
- Compare MRI and echocardiography for the evaluation of intracardiac thrombi.

Program content, evaluation of presentation, screening for bias, and assessing future needs will be addressed by questionnaire.
